A story starts with the reader's decision, not the existence of a press release or trending post. Raso asks what someone could understand, verify, cook, buy, avoid, or plan differently after reading.
If the answer is only that a company made an announcement, the idea is usually not ready for assignment.
Can the central facts be verified?
Before assignment, the editor identifies the primary documents, named sources, dates, and product or study details that would support the central facts.
If the available material cannot support the likely headline and summary, the story remains unassigned rather than being filled with inference.
What risk tier does the assignment require?
Culinary service stories can follow a Tier A editorial check. Nutrition claims, clinical topics, testing verdicts, and breaking or safety-sensitive news require higher gates and named approval before publication.
A missing reviewer or fact-check owner is a publication blocker, not a field that can be replaced with a generic team name.
What will keep the page accurate later?
The assignment defines the permanent URL, visible dates, update trigger, source record, correction path, and related internal links before publication.
A page that cannot explain how it will be maintained is not ready simply because the first draft is complete.
