Useful swaps

  • Make a dairy-free tahini-dill dip: Replace the 2 tbsp (30 g) Greek yogurt with 1 tbsp (15 g) roasted sesame tahini plus 1 tbsp (15 g) water. Stir in 1/2 tsp dill, 1 tbsp chives, 1 tsp lemon juice, 1 tsp maple syrup, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp pepper. Boil 3 eggs for 9 minutes, chill for 2 minutes, halve them, cut 104 g cucumber into spears, and pack everything with the tahini-dill dip kept in a separate compartment. Remains vegetarian and becomes dairy-free when the tahini and other packaged ingredients are labeled dairy-free. Removes milk and introduces sesame; the snack still contains egg, and tahini labels should be checked for individual cross-contact needs. The tahini dip is higher in fat and calories and lower in protein than the yogurt dip.
  • Use crisp red pepper strips: Replace the 1 cup (104 g) cucumber with 75 g red bell pepper cut into sturdy strips. Boil 3 eggs for 9 minutes and chill for 2 minutes. Stir 2 tbsp Greek yogurt with 1/2 tsp dill, 1 tbsp chives, 1 tsp lemon juice, 1 tsp maple syrup, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp pepper. Halve the eggs and pack them with the pepper strips and the dip in a separate leak-resistant compartment. Remains vegetarian. Still contains egg and milk; red bell pepper introduces no regulated major allergen on its own. Calories and protein remain similar, while red pepper provides more natural sweetness and vitamin C than cucumber.
