Useful swaps

  • Use chickpeas: Replace the 120 g white beans with 120 g drained chickpeas. Mash the chickpeas for 2 minutes with 4.5 g olive oil, 15 g lemon juice, 2.8 g garlic, 1 g oregano, 0.3 g black pepper, and 0.5 g salt; stir in 3 g chives. Serve all of the dip with 100 g cucumber sticks and 75 g red pepper strips. Remains vegan. Introduces no regulated major allergen from plain chickpeas; check packaged labels for individual needs. Chickpeas give a firmer texture with similar calories and slightly less protein.
  • Use carrot sticks: Replace the 75 g red pepper with 75 g carrot sticks. Mash 120 g white beans for 2 minutes with 4.5 g olive oil, 15 g lemon juice, 2.8 g garlic, 1 g oregano, 0.3 g black pepper, and 0.5 g salt; stir in 3 g chives. Serve all of the dip with 100 g cucumber sticks and all of the carrot sticks. Remains vegan. Still contains no declared regulated major allergen; carrots introduce none on their own. Calories and protein remain similar, with a sweeter and firmer crunch.
