Useful swaps

  • Use drained tuna: Replace 100 g smoked salmon with 120 g drained tuna. Whisk 100 g Greek yogurt with 15 g harissa, 5 g lemon juice, 4.5 g olive oil, and 0.3 g black pepper for 30 seconds. Cut 64 g whole-wheat pita into wedges, 75 g cucumber into half-moons, and 75 g tomatoes into halves; pat the vegetables dry, arrange them with all of the tuna and harissa yogurt, and serve cold. Remains pescatarian. Still contains fish, milk, and wheat. Tuna is usually lower in fat and calories and slightly higher in protein.
  • Use harissa tahini: Replace 100 g Greek yogurt with 30 g tahini plus 30 g water. Whisk with 15 g harissa, 5 g lemon juice, 4.5 g olive oil, and 0.3 g black pepper for 30 seconds. Arrange 100 g smoked salmon, 64 g whole-wheat pita wedges, 75 g cucumber half-moons, and 75 g halved tomatoes with all of the harissa tahini and serve cold. Remains pescatarian and is dairy-free when packaged ingredients are labeled dairy-free. Replaces milk with sesame and still contains fish and wheat. The tahini version is higher in fat and calories and lower in protein.
